While most Boston-area golfers know Hingham as the home of Black Rock Country Club and the nationally ranked Boston Golf Club, few are in the know about two of the town's best-kept secrets: South Shore Country Club, and buckets.

A semi-private, municipally owned 1922 Stiles and Van Kleek design, South Shore CC stands alongside places like Hooper and Cape Cod CC as a publicly accessible Golden Age charmer. The course is cleverly routed in a butterfly pattern, with each nine rumbling out and back to the clubhouse through some heaving topography. The wonderful collection of two-shotters is highlighted by the drive-and-pitch first, with its massively expanded green now offering delicate front hole locations, and the funky and fantastic punchbowl 16th.
