The term “hidden gem” is overused, but Winnapaug just might qualify. An authentic Donald Ross, this scoreable and fun course sits between the bustling Westerly Airport (allowing for lost of small-plane spotting) and Winnapaug Pond, which abuts the endless strand of Misquamicut Beach. There’s a four-hole bay loop that swings beside the pond, but the best stretch might be from four through eight, which offers some surprisingly tricky greens and two very blind, yet very fun shots. Putting surfaces have shrunk over the years, but the strategy and fun factor remain.
