This golf course is not for beginners… but therein lies the fun. Widow’s Walk was gently massaged from the natural area beside a salt marsh in the seaside town of Scituate, winning an award as Golf Digest’s most environmentally friendly course upon its opening in the ‘90s. What this means from a golfing perspective is that the developers (including the architecture team of Hurzdan and Fry, of Erin Hills fame) weren’t allowed to move much earth. Thus - gorgeous swatches of wetlands, fescue, and forest, interspersed with fairways carved into chutes, onto islands, and in odd directions. The conditioning is superb, and you’ll have at least five shots you’ve never seen before. Worth it, but bring a few extra sleeves.
